Two adult couples dining in a typical Lake Tahoe style restaurant with a view of the lake in the background

If you’re in South Lake Tahoe, you can absolutely waste your trip on mediocre spots, loosely pieced together by a search engine. But, I won’t let that happen to you. So…………..

I interviewed five respected South Lake Tahoe food industry pros: People who cook here, serve here, and know where the heat is. Top-notch foodies. I asked one simple question: Where would you send a best friend?

Here’s their combined list—organized by category—plus my own “Captain’s Choice” section at the end (so I don’t contaminate their picks 🤣

  • Best view dinner: Sage Room

Captain’s Choice (my personal favs)

I’m a simple guy, with simple-man tastes. These spots bring you down to earth, and mix you into the Tahoe local’s culture. If you see me there, don’t be a stranger!

Steamers - Every captain has their favorite nautical themed bar/restaurant. Steamers is a local’s favorite, and always a damn fun vibe.

La Promesa - Fantastic, and large burritos, along with other basic (in a good way) Mexican food. All that you would expect them to have. The SWEETEST family owns this place. Just a 30 second walk to the Lake, at Timber Cove.

Drink Coffee Do Stuff - When I’m not on the water or with my family, I’m constantly working on side projects. This place is my favorite for working “remote”, and my favorite coffee roast on the south side.

Yugen - Although a bit pricier than most places where you’ll find me, the fish quality here is excellent. Seafood/Sushi/Japanese.

Curry & Grill - Indian food… in a liquor store. Take out only. Amazing. I’m sure I will get hate for this pick, but it soooooo Tahoe, and sooooo worth it.
